Radical Prostatectomy (Surgery)
Tips and advice for any sexual side effects of treatment
I had surgery and the nerves were NOT saved - we discussed it and we both agreed that it would not be an issue. After discussing all of the possible treatment options the idea of having ALL of the prostate removed gave us the confidence that this was the best treatment for us.
How this treatment impacted my life the most
Loss of sexual function was the negative aspect. The positive aspect is that I can urinate more freely and with less strain, and I am currently cancer free and expect to be so for the remainder of my days. Currently 406 days post surgery.
If I had to do it all over again, would I choose the same treatment?
Yes
Why did I give this answer?
The surgeon discussed the various options with us. Monitoring did not seem a realistic idea as the concern of just waiting for an elevated result was not feasible. It did not address the initial reason for seeking treatment -poor urine stream. Radiation - was considered but it took the option of surgery out of the equation should the cancer return. My prostate was " in a bucket " and was no longer a concern
