Chemotherapy

How this treatment impacted my life the most

As an active climber and mountaineer, being unable to walk uphill more than a little without feeling exhausted was the main impact. Increased body weight and loss of strength and stamina were a problem.

If I had to do it all over again, would I choose the same treatment?

Yes

Why did I give this answer?

The cancer was diagnosed as aggressive and advanced. Luckily it hadn't reached my bones. My Gleason score and stage were high, and the chemo seems to have worked well. I am better prepared psychologically and physically should I need it again.

Hormone Therapy (injections and relugolix tablets)

Tips and advice for any sexual side effects of treatment

Although I haven't been offered it, I have taken  over the counter medication sometimes- and it has been useful in maintaining an erection.

Tips and advice for any physical side effects of treatment

The hot sweats have been a nightmare! I have about 15-20 a day and they are associated with having just eaten or drunk a hot drink, and a stressful event. They pass quickly but leave me in a cold sweat and chilled. Fan and hankie crucial!

How this treatment impacted my life the most

It has increased my weight and reduced my muscle strength and stamina. I have to be very careful what I eat to keep my weight down. I feel a bit low and unwell for a day or two after the injection, which I have every 28 days. It can be painful and swollen at the site of the injection for a few days.

If I had to do it all over again, would I choose the same treatment?

Yes

Why did I give this answer?

I understand the need to inhibit the production of testosterone, and currently this seems to be the only viable way forward for me. Uncomfortable though it is, it seems to be working at the moment.
