Chemotherapy
Tips and advice for any sexual side effects of treatment
Loss of interest in sex was probably partly due to my age as well as the hormone therapy.
Tips and advice for any physical side effects of treatment
I have to wear full length elastic stockings due to the lymphoedema. My legs have lost strength and I cannot walkfar or fast but I have found that I can still do a fair amount of cycling (although like most of my contemporaries, I use an electric bike!)
How this treatment impacted my life the most
The chemotherapy made me very tired and I had very bad constipation after the first chemo session but I took Laxido two days before subsequent sessions and that helped a lot. The hormone therapy has not impacted on my life much, although it does make me feel extra tired. I was part of Arm K of the Stampede trial- taking Metformin- this has now finished and, as they said, I have put on more weight! The elastic stockings, for the lymphoedema, have had the most effect on my life- I cannot walk very far or fast (I used to do 10 mile walks on Dartmoor) and my legs get quite numb and painful if I stand still for any length of time.
If I had to do it all over again, would I choose the same treatment?
Yes
Why did I give this answer?
I am still here and 84 years old in October. When I was told that my PSA was 518 and I was 74 years old I thought that my days were definately numbered. The hormone therapy brought the PSA down to 1.3 at best, although it is creeping up to around 5 recently. I will always remember my 75th birthday- I spent all day at the hospital having a series of tests and scans. when I had finished at 4.30pm I went to the cafe for a snack, having missed lunch, only to find it had just closed!
