Hormone Therapy (injections and relugolix tablets)

Tips and advice for any sexual side effects of treatment

On the leaking pee side of things I try to lead a normal life by wearing continence pads for men boxers if we are going out out. On the sexual side of things if there is a chance of resuming a sex life. Get in touch with the hospital psychosexual specialist nurse as soon as possible. If not be as close and loving to your partner as possible and share your thoughts about your experience, don’t bottle it up and let it eat you away.

Tips and advice for any physical side effects of treatment

I try and walk or exercise most days I find this actually reduces the fatigue? Also keeping in shape hopefully helps with weight gain.

Tips and advice for any mental and emotional side effects of treatment

I have been on injections and tablets for 4 years now. I think the two biggest problems are night sweats and brain fog. I wish I had advice for these but unfortunately I haven’t yet found anything that helps. My justification is I would rather have these and keep on enjoying life than the alternative!

How this treatment impacted my life the most

I had my prostate removed in 2018. The cancer had spread to my lymph nodes so I then had radiotherapy to the prostate bed. This was quite an unexpected adventure but I had great faith in my medical team. My world was really rocked in March 2021 when I was told the cancer had spread (metastatic) I really thought this was the end. However 4 years later the drugs are still working. The experience has taught me to take every day as it comes and enjoy every day. With support of family and friends we can overcome most obstacles.

If I had to do it all over again, would I choose the same treatment?

Yes

Why did I give this answer?

I don’t like the idea of doing nothing and letting this cancer eat me alive.
