Radiotherapy

Tips and advice for any physical side effects of treatment

While I was having treatment I made sure I cleared my bowels each day before starting my radiotherapy. I feel this helped my bowels after the treatment. The only problems I seem to have is increased wind in my bowel which I am told id normal. It has been suggested that I try to analyse which foods I eat to try to counteract this.

How this treatment impacted my life the most

I tried to exercise through the treatment. I cycled regularly but found as the treatment progressed it became more difficult and by the third week I was forced to give it up completely. I was fit going into the treatment and have started exercising again after the treatment and feel this is why it has not affected my state of well being and mental health.

If I had to do it all over again, would I choose the same treatment?

Yes

Why did I give this answer?

I considered having my prostate removed by operation but having talked to people who had had the operation I decided to go for the radiotherapy. I took the decision when my PSA was 9.9 (having previously been on Active Surveillance) and am now glad I did. My last PSA was less than 0.1. The hormone treatment that goes with Radiotherapy is still causing me to have hot flushes which I find a bit weird but they only last for a few minutes. I seem to also get them at night quite a lot.
