Radiotherapy

Tips and advice for any physical side effects of treatment

Hair loss was only issue. Sessions made no difference to my day. I felt well going in and coming out so difficult to gauge if it had any effect at all. Not sure if major side effects are to do with hormone injections or tablets which I started on almost immediately

How this treatment impacted my life the most

Loss of body hair but otherwise radio therapy was a breeze

If I had to do it all over again, would I choose the same treatment?

Yes

Why did I give this answer?

It had so little impact in terms of side effects

Hormone Therapy (tablets)

Tips and advice for any sexual side effects of treatment

In combination with my injections (Zoladex) the loss in size of my ‘manhood’ when I was reasonably well endowed and my libido when I was ‘lively’ is the most frustrating part of the treatment. You need an understanding partner that you can talk about these side effects to.

Tips and advice for any physical side effects of treatment

Staying fit and eating reasonably healthily becomes important. Hot flushes seem to diminish the fitter I am but come back if I over indulge for a week or two ie on holiday. The same goes for fatigue. Both fatigue and hot flushes are weird. They can arrive quickly but depart just as quickly and sometime last just a few minutes. Push on through both is my advice as it will subside - just get use to making the odd joke about why you are suddenly pouring with sweat! Also, oddly enough, my sweat seems to dry quickly and doesn’t seem as smelly as ‘normal’ sweat. Muscle tone definitely declines so more exercise than you may have done before is necessary if you want to maintain your condition, especially around your middle. On the plus side my skin has seemed softer and facially I have been told I look younger!

How this treatment impacted my life the most

Loss of confidence in my sex life has been the most significant issue for me. The odd hot flush and feeling of fatigue are nothing in comparison.

If I had to do it all over again, would I choose the same treatment?

Yes

Why did I give this answer?

I want to have as much time with my family as possible
