Radiotherapy

Tips and advice for any bladder or bowel side effects of treatment

Make sure your clinician tells you all the possible directions effects; ask for advice on their likely development on how best to manage them and whether there is any treatment or amelioration possible. Get good protection . Try various products and find those that suit you.

Tips and advice for any sexual side effects of treatment

Be open with your partner and find what suits you both. Don't give up on intimate contact even if penetration isn't possible. If orgasm ceases to be possible learn to accept it but enjoy each other's body in whatever way you can. Cialis, viagra, etc very quickly ceased to be much help.

How this treatment impacted my life the most

Rapid loss of sexual capacity, shortening of my penis resulting in problems managing urination. Incontinence.

If I had to do it all over again, would I choose the same treatment?

No

Why did I give this answer?

I was not told that radiotherapy would have any effect on my erectile function and that was the main reason I chose it. I was deeply disappointed and also angry with the consultant who only told me their might be (unspecified) damage to my intestine and that could be cured by surgery. Since my treatment, keyhole robotic surgery has been introduced and I think I would probably opt for that, though I have not had reason to discuss that with a clinician.
