Radical Prostatectomy (Surgery)

Tips and advice for any sexual side effects of treatment

If after surgery you have problems getting and or keeping an erection do investigate with your doctor methods to overcome these problems. For me injections work. Or injections coupled with a vacumn pump for penatrative sex. Size isn't everything

How this treatment impacted my life the most

My sex life was very important to me, I had a very good sex life with my wife of 40 years before surgery and subsequently because I have a very understanding wife post-surgery. The radical surgery has meant that I need to rely on injections to obtain an erection when I want which is not great but if managed with thought it does not mean it has to spoil the sponenaity.

If I had to do it all over again, would I choose the same treatment?

Yes

Why did I give this answer?

For me there was really no alternative. The diagnosis showed I had a Gleason score of 4+3 (5) with clear margins. It made absolute sense to me to cut this cancer out while it was still easily defined. I think it was the right result since I'm now 5 years down the road and having six monthly blood test that reveal a PSA <0.1 ng/ml.
