Radical Prostatectomy (Surgery)

Tips and advice for any sexual side effects of treatment

Medication was given on a daily basis to help with penile rehabilitation this didn’t work a pump was supplied which helps but it is an effort using constrictor rings which are not easy to apply and don’t work to well. I am now able on a different medication, daily dosage not doing much either it looks like an injection is the only way to get a decent erection but haven’t tried it yet.

Tips and advice for any mental and emotional side effects of treatment

You start off grateful for being cancer free but this soon turns into feeling incomplete due to lack of erection and knowing that you are now sterile people don’t understand they say just be grateful you have been saved and a lot of people who have had this procedure feel the same but cannot share their experiences so in turn get depressed and anxious.

How this treatment impacted my life the most

The procedure has wiped out sex life despite some nerves being saved I haven’t been able to have a natural erection now a year after the procedure although I do get the odd feeling nothing happens.

If I had to do it all over again, would I choose the same treatment?

Yes

Why did I give this answer?

The surgery is a one visit procedure no long drawn out radiology treatments but unfortunately you lose erections I’m told I may get them back after two years something which wasn’t explained before the procedure.
