Radical Prostatectomy (Surgery)

Tips and advice for any sexual side effects of treatment

Follow up all the advice and help that is offered, even after a few years.

How this treatment impacted my life the most

Initially, there was a period of moths when my bladder control was poor , needing to wear pads. Over time this improved and I no longer have any incontinence, probably because my fitness was high. I continue to play hockey.

If I had to do it all over again, would I choose the same treatment?

Yes

Why did I give this answer?

Whilst there have been temporary side effects sexually and with continence, surgery, followed by chemo-, radio- and hormone therapy, have resulted in cancer elimination.

Chemotherapy

Tips and advice for any physical side effects of treatment

Go with the flow. You will feel exhausted at times. Get those feet up and have a doze.

How this treatment impacted my life the most

You get used to the treatment cycles, but the exhaustion builds up for a week in each cycle as the cycles progress.

If I had to do it all over again, would I choose the same treatment?

Yes

Why did I give this answer?

Although radical, this treatment did its work and from roughly the second round, my PSA dropped to <0.1 undetectable and has stayed that way for 4+ years.

Hormone Therapy (injections and relugolix tablets)

How this treatment impacted my life the most

Coupled with chemo and prostatectomy, there was a major impact on sexual activity as erections didn’t happen for several years.

If I had to do it all over again, would I choose the same treatment?

Yes

Why did I give this answer?

The combination of prostatectomy, chemotherapy, radiotherapy and hormone therapy resulted in control of the cancer.
