Radical Prostatectomy (Surgery)

Tips and advice for any sexual side effects of treatment

Just be patient with yourself! I felt that sex was probably last on my mind during the treatment and even afterwards. My personal view is that your body will tell you when the time is right.

Tips and advice for any physical side effects of treatment

Make sure that you get the treatment from the Lymhoedema team if needed. Massaging is great for moving that 'sitting' fluid around the body and getting it dispersed.

Tips and advice for any mental and emotional side effects of treatment

Talk! Find that person that you can talk open and honestly with. I had a buddy that had been through the same journey as me and found that by talking openly with him made me feel less inadequate/broken.

How this treatment impacted my life the most

Radiotherapy

Tips and advice for any sexual side effects of treatment

Radiotherapy was in addition to me receiving hormone treatment so I can not be sure which treatment was causing the affects. Listen to your body, it will tell you when you are ready to start relationships again, do not rush.

Tips and advice for any physical side effects of treatment

Radiotherapy treatment can be exhausting just through the nature of going to the hospital to receive the treatment, take your time and allow times when you just need to flake out.

How this treatment impacted my life the most

Take one day at a time and allow your body to tell you when you need to take some time for yourself (i.e. sleep!)

If I had to do it all over again, would I choose the same treatment?

Yes

Why did I give this answer?

It helped me battle the cancer, why would I not 😃

Radical Prostatectomy (Surgery)

Tips and advice for any sexual side effects of treatment

Do not put yourself under pressure, allow yourself time to heal after the surgery and allow time to explore what feels right for you in peace and quiet. There is often a rush in getting you on meds to 'fix the ED problem', however, this can often lead to further issues of gaining an erection or getting your sex drive back due to the mental stress.

How this treatment impacted my life the most

Erectile functionality was my largest impact even though I had nerve sparing surgery.

If I had to do it all over again, would I choose the same treatment?

Not sure

Why did I give this answer?

I would like to investigate further options rather than going directly to prostatectomy
