Radical Prostatectomy (Surgery)

How this treatment impacted my life the most

Being diagnosed with any form of cancer is life changing. However, the doctors and nurses where I was treated were both professional, knowledgeable, and quite frankly brilliant.

If I had to do it all over again, would I choose the same treatment?

Yes

Why did I give this answer?

At the time it was thought the cancer had not spread, so removing my prostate was the logical option.

Chemotherapy

Tips and advice for any bladder or bowel side effects of treatment

Don’t be ashamed if you have an accident. It’s not your fault.

Tips and advice for any physical side effects of treatment

Chemo affects everyone differently. I had side effects not mentioned here such as loss of taste, loss of finger nails etc

Tips and advice for any mental and emotional side effects of treatment

Again, side effects are side effects. They are not your fault. Don’t get upset about them.

How this treatment impacted my life the most

The side effects of chemo are a fact. Everyone will experience them. I had six sessions over five months. It was fairly miserable but what can you do.

If I had to do it all over again, would I choose the same treatment?

Yes

Why did I give this answer?

The cancer had spread to my pelvic lymph node so I was advised by professionals to have chemo followed by radiotherapy. They know better than me so I followed their advice.

Hormone Therapy (injections and relugolix tablets)

How this treatment impacted my life the most

My cancer is now treatable, not curable. So of course it makes you anxious, sometimes depressed, etc. But there is nothing you can do. Keep up the treatment and hope for the best.

If I had to do it all over again, would I choose the same treatment?

Yes

Why did I give this answer?

This treatment was recommended by the specialists, and they know a great deal more than me.
