Richard's Story
I had non nerve sparing surgery. This has impacted a great deal on my sex life. I am a highly sexual person and now I can only get an erection using an injection. This makes spontaneous sex impossible as the erection lasts a couple of hours even on a minimum dose. I am sure many men would like this !
Not sure
The description of the options felt that surgery would be better than the side effects of chemical treatment. However scans did not shot that the cancer had spread outside the prostate and so non nerve sparing surgery was required and as post op within 4 days of leaving hospital I suffered sepsis. This is what nearly killed me. The catheter remained for a further ten days whoch may have made my pee problems worse but as I didn't see a surgeon post op it was not nearly until 2 weeks until the catheter was removed that a nurse told me I had had non nerve sparing surgery and this was a big blow.
