Radical Prostatectomy (Surgery)

How this treatment impacted my life the most

The removal of the prostate removed the possibility of sexual relations but due to my age of 70 plus this was not a problem. I now wear a pad every day but not at night. It is a case of an occasional dripping tap not and not a leaking pipe! In every other way life has not changed.

If I had to do it all over again, would I choose the same treatment?

Yes

Why did I give this answer?

I had a follow up treatment of 33 sessions of radiotherapy in 2014 when my PSA went up to 0.2. Since that date I have now been clear of cancer for nine years with my PSA remaining at 0.1

Radiotherapy

Tips and advice for any physical side effects of treatment

The hormone treatment before they would start radiotherapy caused the body to change dramatically and I lost a lot of strength in my muscles and put on a lot of weight on my waist. This lasted for about 18 months but has now completely gone.

How this treatment impacted my life the most

I had to drive a round trip of 80 miles, every day for 33 days. This period was therefore completely taken up with these daily trips. Luckily many friends volunteered to drive me so we had time for some good conversations.

If I had to do it all over again, would I choose the same treatment?

Yes

Why did I give this answer?

The oncology department were confident that this treatment would cure my cancer and so it would appear as after nine years I am leading a completely normal life.
